The Baptism of Jesus
In those days Jesus came from Nazareth
of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
And just as he was coming up out of the water,
he saw the heavens torn apart and the
Spirit descending like a dove on him.
And a voice came from heaven,
"You are my Son, the Beloved;
with you I am well pleased."
Mark 1:9-11

Take a moment and reflect on the significance
Jesus' Baptism which marked the beginning of his public ministry.

Over the next two weeks I will be exploring
the mysteries of Our Lord through the gift of the rosary.
The "Mysteries of Light" or the "Luminous Mysteries"
seems appropriate in this week before Holy Week
as it reflects on five well-known
stories of Christ's life beginning with his
Baptism and ending with The Last Supper.

Look for Biblical images in some of the Gospels quotes this week.

*Pope John Paul II added the
Mysteries of Light to the rosary in 2002.
His hope was for the rosary to become more fully
"a compendium of the Gospel" that reflects more fully
the many mysteries of the life of Christ.
